For Nokia enthusiasts and phone users alike, Christmas seems to be coming very early this year or late as the case may be. The long and overdue arrival of the Nokia X, the first Nokia phone equipped with an Android operating system, is finally here. Its announcement in February of last month helped to provide some truth to the viral rumors of a Nokia Android mobile phone being in the works. It also granted a sigh of relief to phone users who believed Nokia going Android was already much belated. This drive might just signal the beginning of an end to the marriage between Nokia and its accustomed Windows operating systems, although this very much depends on its overall success which for the most part is expected.
The Nokia X codenamed Normandy is just genius, a breath of fresh air to be frank. It looks just like a Lumia, with its customary colourful polycarbonate unibody shell, but without the commonplace Windows OS which a lot of people had contrasting opinions about. Also with an achievable access to the Playstore with its over 1 million applications the possibilities seem endless. When you add up all of this with the Nokia reputation of having very affordable and extremely durable phones with a battery life that is beyond compare, it is understandable why the buzz around the Nokia X is at a level which has not been experienced since the heydays of The Beatles.

Design:
The Nokia X has a Lumia design with a touch of Asha. Although it is made of plastic it still boasts a premium feel. The phone has a 4-inch WVGA display which is without the capacitive buttons at the bottom of Lumia type screens. The power and volume buttons take their positions on the right side of the phone, micro USB port is placed at the bottom and the 3.5mm audio jack on top of the phone. This smartphone is available in bright green, bright red, cyan, yellow, black and white colors to fit your taste and personality.
Operating System and Connectivity:
The Nokia X runs on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. It however makes use of the Windows tiles modified to have a graphic interface similar to Windows Phone OS. Nokia with this device allows download and installation of third party apps from third party app stores. For connectivity the phone offers Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, USB v2.0, Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, HS and a data download speed of 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps.
Camera and Video:
The Nokia X comes equipped with a 3.15MP camera with features such as 1/5” sensor size, panorama and face detection. It also offers for video recording which is able to playback 720P HD videos thanks to the Graphic renderer on board.
Others:
As we all know the importance of the availability of an FM radio on a phone cannot be underestimated. It is the last piece of the i-can-never-go-bored-with-this-phone puzzle. The Nokia X as such comes integrated with an FM Radio, an HTML browser, document viewer, photo editor, voice memo/dial, predictive text input and a Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery. The battery has a standby time of up to 408 hours and a talk time of 13 hrs 20 mins on a 2G network and 10 hrs 30 mins on 3G.
The Nokia X triumphs over other phones in its league with which it has been compared to. Although it does not come with a secondary camera this would have been asking for too much considering the probable estimated price. So if the speculative comments on mobile phones forums across the internet are anything to go by then it is evident that this is a phone that should be on everybody’s 2014 wishlist, including yours.
