AMVCA 2020: Who was your Best Dressed Celebrity?

Author:

We’ve all heard the popular saying, “Dress the way you want to be addressed.” But one has to wonder if it still applies in this internet age where celebrities have taken to wearing increasingly bold and outrageous outfits, all in the name of attracting some buzz. This was especially true last weekend as the social media world was set ablaze during the 7th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The event took place at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, during which the best personalities featured on the popular DSTV channel were to be honored for their work across films, series and talk shows. But the ceremony itself ended up being overshadowed by all the fashion on display, with some celebrities appearing in elegant apparels, while others surprised viewers in their “Egungun be careful” outfits (which were based off the line from the classic Obesere song that recently found new life as an internet meme).

What follows are some of the very best dressed celebrities that made waves during the event.

Mercy Eke

Would you go for Mercy Eke, the former Big Brother Naija winner, who actually won the best female dressed category of the night? Mercy, in her dazzling three-layered blue dress and later green dress, was just one of the highlights of the event.

Another impressive lady who got the social media fans talking is the German-Ghanian beauty queen and actress, Nana Akua Addo. She graced the event with a masterful and elegant dress.

Sola Sobowale

Sola Sobowale’s adorable and exquisite gown shows she doesn’t want to leave the fashion world to the newbies. Her dress made her look younger than her age.

Mike Edwards

In the men’s category, Big Brother Naija runner up, Mike Edwards, grabbed the award for the best male dressed category for the night. He wore a black suit with a white shirt that had frills on the sleeves and chest. You’ve gotta admit, the brother’s got some style.

IK Ogbonna

I bet many of you would love IK Ogbonna’s black suit with pieces of broken glass on it. He looked very dope in that suit, revealing creativity.

Other honorable mentions from the men’s categories include Ebuka, Banky W, Denola Grey, Funnybone and Uti Nwachukwu, while the other female celebrities to reckon with in their choice of style include Adunni Ade, Toyin Abraham, Funke Akindele, Nancy Isime, Adesua Etomi, Toke Makinwa and Uriel Oputa.

However, there were some celebrities like Omasola of BBNaija and Harrysong whose sense of style has to be questioned. But whatever rationale they had behind choosing their outfits, I at least hope they themselves understood why it was chosen.

It was Gianni Versace that once said, “Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you… decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live.” Some celebrities made use of this quote while others failed to. Which of them would you consider as your best-dressed celebrity at the 2020 AMVCA? Let us know in the comment below.
