3 Reasons Why it’s a Good Time to be a Star Wars Fan

Author:

With the recent release of The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars fans all over the world have every reason to be excited right now. But to the casual observer, you might be forgiven for not sharing in the overall excitement. Which is understandable, since not everyone grew up in adoration of the Skywalkers and their exploits in “a galaxy far, far away.” Not many people can tell their jawas from their ewoks, or the intricacies of the light and dark sides of the Force.

So for those of you wondering what all the current fuss is about, here are three reasons why now, more than ever, is a great time to get bitten by the Star Wars bug:

1. The Mandalorian

Disney recently launched its very own streaming service to compete with the likes of Netflix and Hulu. Dubbed Disney+, the service launched with the first of its planned live-action shows set in the Star Wars universe, The Mandalorian. The show is a space western that follows the adventures of the titular Mandalorian, a bounty hunter that takes it upon himself to care for and protect the cutest 50-year-old baby ever put to film. As spoilerific as that statement should be, chances are you’ve already seen some of the Baby Yoda memes making the rounds since the show started streaming. And if you haven’t, then kudos to you and your dogged resistance to trends and popular culture.

2. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

The gamers among us would know that it has been a while since we’d gotten a decent Star Wars game. We had gems like Knights of the Old Republic and Jedi Outcast in the past, but nothing on that level of polish or acclaim since then. The closest we’d come was Star Wars Battlefront II, a multiplayer-focused shooter that became infamous for its implementation of lootboxes and microtransactions, so much so that it would take its publisher, EA, the better part of the last two years to recover from the fiasco. So you can imagine our relief when Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released, and it delivered the goods, offering one of the year’s best single-player story experiences.

3. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The original Star Wars was released all the way back in 1977, introducing the movie-loving public to series favorites Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo. Since then, the franchise has grown to include 11 movies, 5 of which were released within the span of the last 4 years, following Disney’s acquisition of the film rights from series creator, George Lucas. The Rise of Skywalker is the latest release, and the final installment of the Skywalker Saga, a trilogy of trilogies so to speak. I had the opportunity of catching an advance screening the other day, and oh boy did the movie deliver. So whether you are a long-time fan, or a casual observer, you owe it to yourself to go check it out.

I could go ahead to list countless more reasons why Star Wars is one of the hottest properties in the world right now, but then how would you find the time to go experience any of it for yourself? So on that note, I’ll leave you with the following quote from my favorite Jedi Master:
