55 years ago, the British colonial rule came to an end and Nigeria got its independence and became a Republic
.
Nigeria is often referred to as the “Giant of Africa” with approximately 174 million inhabitants, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world with different ethnic groups and diverse religion.
Despite these differences in culture and beliefs, Nigeria, as a nation keeps getting stronger. For 55 years, the nation has witnessed both military and civilian rule and has grown to be one of the most populous countries of the African continent, and having one of the fastest growing economies of the world.
The importance of Independence Day in Nigeria comes with the fact that it brings all the Nigerians together in one accord not only within the country but also in the far off lands of the world.
As we Celebrate Nigeria at 55 years, we pray for our leaders to be upright and lead us right. We pray for peace in the North and other regions. We also pray for a corrupt-free Government. Remember, to build a better Nigeria, it has to begin with you and me. Let us learn to love each other and live in peace and harmony. We should also support the government and work hand in hand to make Nigeria a better place.
