West Africa Bloggers Conference – The Recap

The West Africa Bloggers Conference might have come and gone but the memories will forever linger on! Similar to the claim before a sermon, the common consensus among the bloggers who were in attendance was that they most certainly did not leave the way they came. With speakers such as Jonathan Doerr – MD Marketing Jumia, Bayo Adekanmi – Chief Marketing Officer MTN Nigeria and Taiwo Kola Ogunlade – Communications and Public Affairs Manager Google Nigeria amongst others, it was clear from the onset that this conference was one which would be filled with information, experience and opportunities.

On day one of the WABC, Bayo Adekanmi of MTN, Lanre Aina of Google and Alaezi Akpuru of Jumia graced the stage and lectured bloggers generally on the strength of social media, the fast growing market for bloggers in Nigeria and the tips to becoming a successful blogger. Those in attendance were left calculating their chances when Bayo Adekanmi informed the crowd that he had hired two very brilliant minds simply by reading their blogs. Lanre Aina left no stone unturned as he dished out a lot of information which included useful and interesting stats from Google. Alaezi on her part gave the crowd some food for thought when she mentioned,’Reviews equals engagement, engagement equals mass, and mass equals money’.

Day two of the event had Jonathan Doerr, Femi Fadipe and Seun Adenuga, all of Jumia, take to the stage to prove that information is the new currency.  They delivered tried and tested strategies, gave out best practices and also provided the eager listeners with opportunities to gain traffic. As Jonathan Doerr highlighted in his speech, bloggers who wrote about the Jumia Mobile Week stood a chance to get an official invite to the Jumia Press Conference, get social mentions on Jumia’s Social media pages and the opportunity to get an advertisement slot on Nigeria’s top website, www.lindaikeji.blogspot.co.uk for a whole day.

A big thank you to the organizers of the event and all the sponsors because, it’s definitely not easy to organize a free conference and make it a huge success”. Testimonials of this nature were the order of the day as most bloggers interviewed echoed the same views.
