The Nintendo Switch has been having a relatively quiet 2020 thus far, with no major game announcements made recently. The last general Nintendo Direct was held back in September, and since then, we’ve only gotten dedicated Directs for Pokémon and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Another dedicated Direct was broadcast yesterday, for what is arguably the hybrid console’s biggest release of 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The 28-minutes livestream was split into 3 parts. The first served as a recap and detailed look at most of the details already revealed about the upcoming title, which took up the bulk of the stream. The next section of the Direct covered what players of the game can expect post-release. Emphasis was placed on the development of free updates, although nothing was said if we could also expect paid DLC and expansions sometime down the line. Finally, Part 3 covered FAQs about the game.
Animal Crossing is a social simulation video game franchise developed by Nintendo. The first game in the series was released in 2001 for the Nintendo 64, before being ported to the GameCube. The series as a whole has sold over 30 million copies, making it one of Nintendo’s best-selling franchises. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the fifth installment in the main series, and the game releases exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on the 20th of March, so fans of the series don’t have to wait long to experience it for themselves.
