The Samba Groove: Nigeria vs Iran

Author:

It is a beautiful day today! The air smells nicer, colours look brighter, and everything sounds better! There can only be one reason for this delightful atmosphere, its match day; Nigeria vs Iran! The Super Eagles of Nigeria would be wary of the quote ‘The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know’’ as they take on The Persian Stars of Iran today in what would be the first meeting between the two sides on a World Cup stage. So it all starts here, the road to the final in Rio de Janeiro, frankly the road to redemption for Stephen Keshi’s boys after a dismal outing at the last World Cup in South Africa.

It’s safe to say that the Iranians are far from pushovers as their coach Carlos Queiroz is a former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson and they have players who ply their trade in England such as Ashkan Dejagah of Fulham and Reza Ghoochannejhad of Charlton Athletic. The giants of Africa will however be primed to ensure there would be no incident of giant killing today as Chelsea FC duo of John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses would be looking to grab the headlines. The Super Eagles come into this match on the back of a less than flattering run of warm up games though (2 draws, 1 loss) while their opposition, the Iranians, are unbeaten in their own build up to the main event (1 win, 3 draws). Go Super Eagles!
