Nintendo has unceremoniously announced what is arguably the biggest update to its Nintendo Switch game, Super Mario Maker 2. The announcement was made via a tweet on Twitter.

The biggest addition to the game comes in the form of a World Maker, which allows players to arrange their levels into worlds, à la Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. The update also introduces Super Mario Bros. 2 mechanics, like riding on top of enemies, as well as picking them up and throwing them to clear obstacles or solve puzzles. It also adds boss encounters with a number of koopalings, as well as new gameplay mechanics in the form of wearable power-ups. You can watch the full reveal trailer below:
Super Mario Maker 2 was released for the Nintendo Switch on the 28th of June, 2019. It serves as a sequel to the popular Nintendo Wii-U title, Super Mario Maker, a game that allowed players to create their own Super Mario-themed levels. The new game has sold more than 5 million copies since its release, and its “final major update” will be available for download tomorrow.
