Yay!!! Jumia is 4! *Throws confetti in the air*

The story of Jumia is as novel as it is inspiring, given that the Nigerian business terrain is known to have its up & downs.

Your favourite online store was launched in 2012 as Jumia Nigeria, with the vision to become the one-stop online store for retail in Nigeria. We began with just 3 employees and swiftly evolved to be the leading E-tailer across the African continent with over 1000 employees in Nigeria alone. OMG!!!

Initially, our services were only available to a few states, at an average delivery time of a week and a limited product offering. Today Jumia has over 200,000 products from premium brands delivered right at your doorstep across the federation at an average of 1-5 days.

We are still nostalgic about 2013; Jumia shook the internet with the Black Friday sales, the largest sale event in Nigeria recording.  In 2014, Nigerians had started getting excited with the concept of Black Friday, which recorded twice success with of the previous year with a whooping sum of over 23,000 orders. The 2015 Black Friday hit the roof receiving 100 times more traction as an avalanche of 2million Nigerians visited www.jumia.com.ng accompanied with a record orders totaling about 200,000 orders in a single day.

Jumia took the Nigerian fashion industry by storm with the introduction “We Love Style” e-magazine on 21st of January, 2014 which brings highlights of latest fashion trends and lifestyle in vogue. In June 2015, the mobile megathon was born, Jumia partnered with brands like Infinix, Innjoo, Tecno, Lenovo to bring the biggest sales event for mobile phones across Nigeria in which 80,000 devices were sold within a week.

While making you our priority, we also bagged a couple of accolades along the way like the best New Ecommerce at World Retails Award in 2013. In the same year, Jumia secured a 35$ funding from Millicom and moved to 90,000 sqft warehouse in Lagos to house 500 employees and create the largest ecommerce campus in West Africa.

Other awards are the 2015 Abuja Chamber of Commerce & Industry E-retailer of the year award, 2015 Nigerian Customer Service Excellence Awards

We have not rested on our oars in contributing to the eco system by encouraging manufacturers of ‘Made in Nigeria products’ as well as other SME’s through the introduction of the Jumia market place in 2014.
