Not to be outdone by the Samsung Galaxy S20 or Sony Xperia 1 II, Huawei has taken the wraps off its new trio of flagship phones, the Huawei P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro+. The smartphones were unveiled yesterday via a livestream during its online global launch event, after the originally planned launch event in Paris was canceled due to coronavirus concerns.

The online global launch offered an in-depth look at the three smartphones, and much lIke the P30 series before it, the P40 series has photography as a main focus. At the top of the series is the P40 Pro+, with its penta (five) Leica camera setup. This includes a 50-megapixel standard zoom , a 40-megapixel ultrawide-angle camera, an 8-megapixel optical zoom, and a depth sensor. Like the Samsung Galaxy S20, the device can hit a 100x zoom, as well as an impressive 10x optical zoom.

The camera boasts the ability to capture minute details even at considerable zoom distances. It also promises incredible low-light performance, and several photos were shown depicting how it performs compared to competing devices. All three phones also have a burst mode called Golden Snap, which is capable of intelligently selecting the best photo by removing imperfections like reflections from the frame. It even has the the ability to take out stray photo bombers. I mean, how cool is that?

In terms of actual specs, the phones are powered by a Kirin 990 processor which supports 5G, 8GB RAM, 128/256GB internal storage, and a 3,8000/4,200mAh battery that supports 40-watts fast charging. As for aesthetics, the new devices have bezel-less OLED displays that wrap over the sides of the phone. They also have a glass or matte Nano-Tech Ceramic finish, water-resistant casings, and they come in a variety of colors which include classic black and ice white.
