Yessir, Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos is now on Monopoly and it’s available on Jumia . The first African city edition of the famous board game takes inspiration from our City to bring to you: The Lagos Edition of Monopoly.
Officials unveiled the Lagos-themed Monopoly board game on Tuesday, they walked past a massive display of the new board game on the floor at Lagos’ City Hall.
Hasbro Inc., which owns the rights to Monopoly, said Bestman Games Ltd. would distribute the Lagos version of the game under an exclusive license with the support of the Lagos State Government, First Bank of Nigeria Plc and GTBank Plc and other esteemed partners. Below is a little documentary:
Earlier on at a press conference held at The Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi, Mrs. Nimi Akinkugbe of the Lagos-based Bestman Games said “Lagos is the first African city to have its Monopoly. Two countries in Africa have theirs, Morocco and South Africa. But there’s no city that has its own customised edition”.
The first box of African city edition of the famous board game was given to the Governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola.
The most expensive property is Banana Island took the converted ‘Mayfair’ spot, the cheapest is Makoko. There’s still a chance issuing fine phrases like “Park! Park!”.” and jail, with the option of just visiting as always.
This edition enhances the profile of Lagos and Nigeria by presenting the mega city on the world stage in a fun and attractive manner. This could also be considered as a gizmo for children, to play a board game that they can relate to, which also captures familiar places, other board games currently do not have.
