After several leaks and much anticipation, OnePlus has given the world its first official glimpse of its OnePlus 8 series. This came during a livestream that was held yesterday on YouTube. Unlike other recent digital launch events, the company seemed to embrace the fact that their viewers were watching from home, as opposed to having a live audience in a conference hall, even throwing jabs at the fake studio audiences other companies have had in their digital launches.
The new series is made up of two devices, the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro, the latter of which now serves as their new flagship, a premium device the company is touting as their most impressive phone yet. One of its standout features is its display: it houses a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a1440p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. This ensures that the device would have silky-smooth performance whether you’re watching videos, playing games, or merely scrolling through a social media feed.
And speaking of performance, the device is powered by some top-of-the-line specs that includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 CPU, 8/12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 128/256GB of UFS3.0 storage and a 4,510 mAh battery that supports both wireless and fast charging. In terms of photography, it has a 16MP selfie camera, and a 48MP main camera in a quad camera setup. By comparison, the OnePlus 8 has a triple camera setup as well as a smaller 6.5-inch display rated at 90Hz. Both devices would support 5G connectivity.
The devices would be available in Europe from the 22nd of April, with the OnePlus 8 starting at $699, while the OnePlus 8 Pro starts at $899 and tops out at $999 for the 12GB RAM/256GB Storage variant. You can watch the full livestream below:
